Ginger stops every kind of nausea, including motion sickness
Partially trueThe Claim
Ginger is widely recommended as a universal natural anti-nausea remedy for morning sickness, chemotherapy, surgery and travel sickness alike.
Origin
Ginger has a long history in traditional medicine for digestive upset, and early trials in pregnancy nausea helped popularize it as an all-purpose remedy.
What Science Says
Evidence is strongest for pregnancy: an umbrella review of 18 systematic reviews found 450-1,950 mg ginger daily reduced nausea severity versus placebo, with effectiveness similar to vitamin B6. For chemotherapy nausea, a meta-analysis of 35 RCTs found ginger helped only as an add-on to standard antiemetics (e.g., grade 3 acute nausea RR 0.19). For motion sickness, a controlled trial found 500-1,000 mg ginger gave no protection, while scopolamine did.
