Absorption
✦Increase fiber intake gradually over 2-3 weeks to avoid bloating and gas. Always drink plenty of water with fiber supplements. Take fiber supplements 1-2 hours away from medications as fiber can reduce drug absorption.

Common dose: 5-10g per serving of fiber supplement, 1-3 times daily
RDA: 25g/day for women, 38g/day for men
Upper limit: No established UL, but >70g/day may cause GI distress
Best form: Psyllium husk (soluble), wheat bran (insoluble), or mixed fiber supplements. Whole foods are preferred over supplements.
Timing: With meals and plenty of water. Split doses throughout the day rather than one large dose.
Start low and increase slowly. Fiber supplements can interfere with medication absorption — take 1-2 hours apart.
